Why we started
HealthRight Foundation Uganda was established in 2026 to leverage more than 20 years of HealthRight International’s experience in Uganda while creating a locally registered, locally governed organization that can deepen community ownership and strengthen the sustainability of health interventions.
Over the past two decades, HealthRight International has worked with refugees, post-conflict communities, and host populations, delivering health and mental health programs and developing a strong understanding of the needs of underserved communities and Uganda’s health system. This experience highlighted the need for a stronger locally rooted entity that could build community-based and community-owned solutions while bridging gaps between services at community level and care provided through district, regional, and national health institutions.
HealthRight Foundation Uganda therefore builds on this established experience rather than starting from the beginning. The Foundation has already established a local Board of Directors to provide strategic leadership, governance, and accountability within Uganda. It also draws on experienced Uganda-based staff who previously implemented HealthRight International programs and bring extensive knowledge of the communities, health system, partnerships, and operational terrain.
Through this transition, HealthRight Foundation Uganda seeks to preserve more than two decades of experience and trusted partnerships while strengthening local leadership, community ownership, and long-term sustainability of health interventions in Uganda.
